reading reviews of Etnica's Chrome album on psynews.org
wouldnt let me post this there, so instead im going to post it here on the off chance that ppl who subscribe to that forum will read my opinions before i get a chance to post there.
Ive been into etnica for a long time now, and to tell you the truth, i like the way they are progressing with their music. each of their albums grows and is something similar but different to their last. I hear you all go on about how etnica is becoming techtrancey and how this album and nitrox suck... how you want the old etnica back... if you remember back to the equator album, you will notice that trip in transkei and resistance were hinting at these mechanical, minimal dark sounds so prevalent on nitrox and chrome. yes... the other tracks were more of the old melodic etnica, but thats exactly what it is OLD ETNICA! if you want to hear more of the old etnica, i suggest you go and buy some old etnica albums and EP's(some alien protein and some astral way/tribute). When i feel like melodic, i listen to old etnica, when i feel like dark minimal and mechanical, i listen to new etnica. If you really want that trippy sequenced layered goa sound, then try your hardest to get some pleiadians (just like i did)
I dont understand why its just a travesty with some of you that a band wants to change its sound, to move on and try something new.
Ive had the western edition of Chrome for just over a week now and its been a fun ride! I like it, its hard, its dark, its pounding and it makes me feel at one with the machine (is etnica moving into the realms of industrial sound? wouldnt it be amazing music if they did!!) This album just does not stop building up and up. i particularly like the tracks VCO (slow to build up, but once the samples kick in, and that headfucky funky breakdown... best listened to VERY loudly!), Are we safe? (some nice, driving beats and squelchy bits), Solaris (great sample from PI) and Traktor Activity (dark, atmospheric and very moveable!)
This whole album makes me stomp... open your minds and be at one with the machine!
